Our next W.E.B. report is due Monday, February 4th.  Students need to turn in:
-A book diary
-A summary (see 5 paragraph summary guidelines in reading folder)
-5 cue cards

Today in class we learned how to make our cue cards.  Below are the expectations we discussed.

* If you do not have note cards you can neatly cut a piece of notebook paper into fourths or sixths.
* Number each card
* Write a heading on each card (Introduction, Beginning, Middle, End, Conclusion)
* Write 3-5 bullets on each card
* Write phrases, not complete sentences
* Write neatly (cursive or print- whatever you can read best)
* Practice, practice, practice!
* Your presentation should be between 3-5 minutes. Again, practice, practice, practice.  :)

The K.J. Challenge

"Life's most urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"- Martin Luther King, Jr.

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. day we started the K.J. Challenge today.  Each of our students promised  to commit at least 1 act of kindness or justice each day over the next two weeks.  Once a students has completed an act of kindness he/she is to write it down on a KJ Challenge sheet to be turned in and discussed the following day.  These acts will be proudly displayed on the wall outside of our classroom.

In class we discussed how we all have the power to change our world through acts of kindness, both big and small.  Please help to discuss the importance of this challenge at home by discussing the meaning of the words kindness and justice at home and helping your child to identify acts that they can accomplish.  In class we have been focusing on the power of our words and the power of reaching out to others.  Thank you for your support at home with this challenge.

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to all of the 4th graders who participated in the spelling bee today.  They did a wonderful job representing their classes.  Lola was our 4th grade winner and Nolan is our runner up.  They will both go on to represent the 4th grade in the all school spelling bee next week.
